Search for Players Goes On Despite Wins - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Paul Jewell says he’s still looking to add to his squad despite the Blues winning their last two games. The Football League’s ‘emergency loan window’ opened on Wednesday.

Jewell says he and his staff are always trying to bring in players who will add to their options: "We’re always on the lookout to try and improve our team. We’ve had two really good results but if there’s someone out there that we can get who can improve us, we’ll try and do it.

"We’ve got to be very careful not to just make signings for the sake of it because the window’s open. We’re always trying to look to improve our team and we’re trying to look long-term for next year and the year after, for the future rather than just loans. But if one or two loans become available which suit us, we’re interested.”

He says loans with a view to permanent deals being done in the summer are in his thoughts: "We’re trying to improve the squad all the time, but certainly in the summer we want to be ready to get players that will be here for the long haul rather than short-term, quick-fix stuff.”

The Blues boss seems undecided whether he’ll go back for January’s trio of Portsmouth targets, central defender Jason Pearce, keeper Stephen Henderson and midfielder or defender Joel Ward, despite Pompey manager Michael Appleton admitting he feared Town renewing their interest: "I don’t know. I had a conversation with Michael a couple of weeks ago about players there and it didn’t happen. Sometimes things don’t happen.

"I don’t know what the situation is there. I watched them again on Tuesday against Birmingham and they’ve got some good players. Whether we can afford them, whether deals can be done for them, now or in the future, remains to be seen.”

Former loanee Danny Collins is still at Stoke but Jewell wouldn’t discuss whether the Wales international would come back into his thoughts: "At one time Danny was going to go to Southampton but I don’t know what happened there. It’s probably not right for me to talk about individual players at other clubs.

"Like all teams, we’re on the lookout to improve, if we can’t, we can’t. We’re not sat here after two games and two good results thinking everything in the garden is rosy.”
