Murphy: Euros Call Unlikely - Ipswich Town News

Daryl Murphy is not retiring from international football — but admits he will be surprised if he adds to the nine Republic of Ireland caps he has already won.

When the curtain comes down on the current domestic campaign many of his fellow countrymen will turn their attention to the Euro 2012 tournament being hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

But Murphy, 28, said: "I will be going on holiday with my family and catching up with friends. I’m only being realistic. I don’t think I have any chance of getting into the squad.

"The lads who have got us there have done brilliantly and it is only right that they are allowed to carry on for the finals.”

Waterford-born Murphy stresses it is not a question of him turning his back on his country and added: "I would never rule myself out and if they suddenly had a lot of injuries, which meant that I was called up, then happy days and I would be absolutely delighted. But I just cannot see it happening.”
