Town defender Damien Delaney is praying he will not suffer another injury relapse between now and the end of the season. The 30-year-old Irishman has been dogged by misfortune this season and although currently fit he is reluctant to state that all his problems are behind him.
Delaney said: "The last time I did an interview I was saying how well things were going after I picked up a stress fracture in my foot. Then I went and got injured in my very next game and I was out again.
"At the moment I am just taking every training session as it comes. I hope to tick over, stay in the team and keep picking up points. We have 15 games left and my aim is to be involved in every one of them as we move up the league table to finish at the very least in the top half of the table.”
Delaney’s frustration is much in evidence as he discusses what has been a stop-start personal campaign and he added: "With the stress fracture, it has been one of those things that wouldn’t really go away.
"If you get a break you wait for it to heal and then you get on with it. With this injury you think you’re fine but you’re not. You feel fit enough to play then you are thinking ‘Oh my God it’s not right’ and you have to miss games again.
"I am hoping I can get through to the summer and give it a good long rest so that it will bond back together in time for pre-season training. It has been massively frustrating this season but in many ways it has been crazy for all of us. "Look at the game at Leeds a few weeks ago. We were ahead, in complete control and then we capitulated in the space of about four minutes and the game was done and dusted. There have been too many occasions like that and hopefully we’ve seen the last of them.” Photos: Action ImagesWhat to read next:
