Jewell: Up to Us to Sell Season Tickets - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Jewell says it’s up to him and his players to sell season tickets for the 2012/13 campaign with their performances between now and the end of the season. Town announced a freeze on season ticket prices earlier in the week.

Jewell says that if the club are to match or increase this year’s total of 13,370 season ticket holders, his team will have to impress with on-field performances: "I think it’s up to us on the pitch to bring supporters in. The supporters have been brilliant since I’ve been here.

"I know when I came here as a player and as a manager in the past there’s always been a terrific atmosphere and the fans have always been really behind the team. Hopefully we can give them something in the years to come to be proud about.

"I know how expensive it is to watch football, especially if you’ve got a family, it’s not just the match, it’s getting there, food, a pie and a pint or whatever. We really appreciate the supporters’ support, because without them we’re nothing.”

The Town manager is pleased with the way the fans have got behind his players in recent games: "I thought the atmosphere was terrific last week. West Ham was a bit of a local derby for us, they’re probably the team that’s nearest to us in our league.

"I think Cardiff only brought 300 because their supporters are off to Wembley this week and it’s an expensive hobby, football. I thought the atmosphere was terrific last week.”

He admits that watching the Blues hasn’t always been as enjoyable this season: "We want people to be excited but we’ve had a tough season and the supporters have had a tough season so far.

"I did say when I came here that, hopefully, this will be a long-term project, there’s not going to be a quick fix and we’ve still got a long, long way to go. We’re looking up the table to where we want to be.

"I can’t ask any more from the supporters, they’ve been brilliant with us and we’d like to give them a good end to the season and you just never know what happens.

"But we have to temper that and just be careful because we lost seven on the bounce at one stage and this league is like that."

Season ticket packs are being printed next week and will be sent to existing season ticket holders from the week commencing 5th March.
