Stevenson Could Have Joined Rangers - Ipswich Town News

Town new boy Ryan Stevenson would rather not think about what might have been.

The Scottish midfielder or striker has been reflecting on how things could have worked out had he not opted to join Ipswich from Hearts and instead signed for crisis club Rangers.

When the 27-year-old arrived at the end of January in a £50,000 deal he had been out of action after walking out on the Edinburgh club because they were consistently late with wage payments.

Stevenson said: "Imagine if I’d gone from Hearts, where I wasn’t getting paid, to Rangers. With what’s happened at Ibrox I think it would have been the end for me as a player.

"Honestly, it would have sent me over the edge and I would have probably stopped playing football.

"Rangers were in for me and my agent spoke to them a couple of times. But I always felt Ipswich was the best option for me and I’m delighted with the way things have worked out.”

Stevenson, 27, is loving life after wife Hannah gave birth to the couple’s first child, a boy named Carter, last week.

He added: "I had sent my wife back to Scotland and the manager was kind enough to give me a couple of days off.

"I flew up there on the Tuesday and returned after he was born on the Thursday. Then I got on against Bristol City on Saturday and at Southampton on Tuesday.

"We were off on Wednesday so I flew back up to see them and I returned early on Thursday in time for training. I haven’t had much sleep but I’m not going to complain because it has been the best week of my life.

"It’s been hard as well with them being in Scotland. It’s difficult to be away from them. Coming down here and leaving them has been hard for me.

"But I knew the situation before I signed. I knew this would happen. The fact that I have also played my first games for Ipswich has been a massive positive.”
