Cresswell: I'll Be Even Better Next Year - Ipswich Town News

Aaron Cresswell has promised Ipswich fans that he will be an even better player next season.

The popular young left-back has gained vital experience this season following his move from Tranmere last summer, missing only one Championship game so far.

That was back in October when he was absent from the 4-1 defeat at Millwall as he served a one-game suspension for being red-carded in the 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace seven days earlier.

Cresswell, 22, said: "When I first came to the club I wanted to be involved from the start and then my next target was to keep my place in the side.

"I am delighted with the way things have gone, especially recently when we have only been beaten once in our last eight games.

"Personally, I can see me having even more to offer next season because the more games you play the better you should become because you learn more by playing on a regular basis.

"It was a big step up coming from League One. Opponents are bigger, faster and more intelligent. It has kept me on my toes and I want to kick on again next season.”

Cresswell is not blind to his faults and is quick to take his share of the blame for the fact that Town have leaked more goals — 63 — than any of the Championship rivals.

He added: "We have consistently leaked two, three or even more in games, although we have been tighter in recent weeks. I know you defend as a team but I still think that when it comes to goals conceded the back four are mainly at fault.

"As a team we are working a lot harder on our defending. Lads like Luke Hyam, Andy Drury and Lee Martin have brought fresh legs to the side and everyone is playing for the shirt.

"Another thing that has helped is that we have put in more work in training on things like closing people down as quickly as we can.”
