Left-back Aaron Cresswell was in no doubt that Town's winning goal during Saturday's 3-2 victory over Peterborough was his despite it deflecting off Posh defender Gabriel Zakuani. The ex-Tranmere man’s first goal for the Blues sealed the win in the 85th minute.
After the game manager Paul Jewell laughed that it was an own goal but Cresswell says it will definitely go down as his: "It was going top corner. It did take a deflection but it was on target so it is my goal.
"It is nice to score but it was not just about me it was about the team performance and we got that.”
The 22-year-old, who says he hasn’t given up on the play-offs even if Town are still very much outsiders for a top six place, was pleased to lay to rest the ghost of the 7-1 thrashing at London Road in August: "When we went there and got beat seven it was one to forget for everyone so to beat them 3-2 was good for everyone.
"We couldn't go into the game dwelling on the seven goals as we didn’t want any negatives and we stayed positive.
"It was good to put that to rest and it was important to move on from that. It was one of those games where it was up and down but we deserved the points.”
He says Saturday’s match, in which the visitors had the better of the first half, was one the Blues probably wouldn’t have taken points from not so long ago: "We would have lost that game three months ago when would go under the cosh and then lose the game.
"Now we have that never say die attitude and that is something the gaffer said we needed all season but never had. Now we seem to have turned the corner and now have that attitude.
"We have come on a long way from three months ago when we could not keep a clean sheet or score goals and lost six on the bounce. We have turned the corner. We are a lot stronger as a team, we have better shape."
Manager Paul Jewell highlighted midfielder Grant Leadbitter as his side’s key man against Posh: "Grant was excellent. I thought he was very good. I thought he was our best player.”
Asked whether there are plans for immediate contract discussions with the 26-year-old, whose current terms are up in June, he joked that given his recent performances the Blues might be best off keeping things as they are for the moment: "By the looks of it we’re better off not!”
Meanwhile, Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez is a doubt ahead of Wednesday's game against Town at Portman Road due to a groin injury. Rodriguez, a Blues target in the summer, missed Sunday's goalless draw at Cardiff.
