Blues boss Paul Jewell says he wants to see more goals from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas with the 21-year-old often getting in good positions but not always hitting the target. The former Arsenal trainee, who has netted six times this season, had a number of opportunities during Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Barnsley, coming closest when he hit the bar in the second half.
Jewell wondered whether Tykes’ keeper David Button might have got a touch: "I don’t know whether the keeper might have just tipped that on to the bar.
"He had six shots in the first half and I think he nearly broke his foot when he kicked the ground on one occasion.
"With the ability he’s got, he’s got to hit the target more often, he’s got to score more goals. His ability is undoubted.
The Blues boss says he replaced the exciting former England U19 international in the second half as he was tiring: "He was absolutely knackered.
"Sometimes when he’s a bit tired he switches off a little bit and I think he’d be the first to admit that. This is the most he’s ever played football and he’ll be better for next year because he knows found out what it’s about — the level of football and the pace of the football.
"He had six shots in the first half, no exaggeration. He’s just got to realise he only gets one for scoring, he doesn’t get two if he bursts the net!”
