Town Announce New Scholars - Ipswich Town News

Next season’s 10 new full-time Academy scholars will be formally inducted into the club today. They will be shown around the stadium and officially welcomed to Town by chief executive Simon Clegg.

Midfielder Byron Lawrence is the most familiar name amongst them with the one-time Histon youth player likely to make his first team debut in either of the next two games.

In addition to Lawrence, there’s locally-based right-back or midfielder Kyle Hammond, who has been with the Academy for three years.

Joe Robinson from Haverhill is a versatile defender who has also been with the club for three years.

Midfielder or defender Rory Thompson is, like Lawrence, from Cambridge and again has been with the club for three seasons.

Wide midfielder Cory Galvin is from Cork and was in the Irish U16 side which beat Belgium 4-1 away in a friendly yesterday.

Amir Berkane, from Kelvedon in Essex, has been with the Academy for six years. A holding midfielder who likes a tackle.

Jack Willbye also plays in the centre of midfield. A set-piece expert, he has been with the Academy since he was 10 and is also based in Cambridge.

Another midfielder, Teddy Bishop, again from Cambridge, has been with the club since U8 level.

Taylor Hendry is a striker from Edinburgh, who holds the ball up well and works hard.

Central defender Omar Sowumni, from Colchester, joined the Academy late last year.

[Edit] Norwegian keeper Michael Crowe, 16, was a late addition to the new intake. The 6ft 5in tall stopper, whose father is English and whose sister is at college locally, was previously with Kristiansand-based club IK Start.
