Boss Paul Jewell implied that some of his senior players ought to follow the example of 16-year-old debutant Byron Lawrence after the Blues beat Doncaster 3-2 at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday. The Town manager was angry that experienced members of his squad have continued to make silly mistakes.
Jewell says the sort of errors which led to Rovers’ late goal on Saturday have cost the club points throughout the season: "We just do ridiculous things. The goal at the end there really annoyed me. At the start of the second half, we gave a daft freekick away, they took a quick one and they should have scored.
"They’re game-changing events and we need to start sharpening up mentally and in terms of intelligence. You keep on saying the same things and you hope [they sink in].
"Young Byron there, you only have to tell him something once and he’s intelligent enough to take it on board. And that’s what we want - intelligent footballers. Sometimes we’ve let ourselves down through a lack of concentration.”
