Target Ward Undergoes Surgery - Ipswich Town News

Town target Joel Ward has undergone surgery on a hernia problem which he has had for the last couple of months of Portsmouth’s unsuccessful struggle to remain in the Championship. The Blues, who have been after the 22-year-old since January, continue to talk to Ward’s representatives and Pompey’s administrators regarding the proposed switch.

Manager Paul Jewell revealed that Ward’s agent had called him last week and was due to talk to Blues owner Marcus Evans.

Speaking to TWTD yesterday, chief executive Simon Clegg wouldn’t be drawn on any more recent developments: "There are ongoing discussions but I can’t be specific.”

Ward, whose surgery went well, has another year remaining on his Portsmouth contract and is one of their most saleable remaining assets. Centre-half Jason Pearce, who was also targeted by the Blues in January, is expected to complete his move to Leeds by the end of this week.

Meanwhile, former Blues boss Roy Keane has revealed that his dog Triggs died a few weeks ago. Triggs became football’s most famous dog when she was regularly photographed being walked by Keane after his controversial return from Saipan prior to the 2002 World Cup.

More recently she was to be spotted similarly strolling the streets of Woodbridge during her owner’s time in charge at Portman Road.
