Johnson and Naylor in? - Ipswich Town News

David Johnson seems likely to be fit for Saturday's game with West Bromwich Albion. Despite this there is a great deal of speculation amongst fans and the local media that Richard Naylor may get a start with James Scowcroft moving into midfield. Naylor had a very bright eighteen minutes when he came on during the Southampton game on Monday.

Town have been linked with a move for Manchester United right-sided defender or midfielder Michael Clegg. George Burley is reported to have approached Alex Ferguson to try and get the 22-year old on loan and the Manchester United manager is considering the request. With Gary Croft in prison, Fabian Wilnis woefully out of touch and John Kennedy not considered good enough these days, a right wing-back is as much a priority as is a left winger.

Talking of which Sunderland's Allan Johnston is also a reported target of Town, although like his former colleague Martin Smith, he considers Ipswich too far south. Johnston has just completed a loan spell at Birningham which he also considered too far south.

The Scottish international's wife is also pregnant which also has some bearing on the situation. George Burley said "I understand that Allan's wife is due to have a baby and so he wants to stay in the North."

Norwegian Odd Inge Olsen is reported as being desperate to get back to Ipswich and get on with his trial. The attacking midfielder had one game for the reserves in which he injured his calf, but George Burley has stated on several occasions that he is interested in having him back. Next week seems the earliest possible date for a return.

Town's reserve match scheduled for this evening at Southend has been called off due to frost on the pitch.
