Chambers at Club as Kourouma Set to Sign - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers is, as per reports last night, at Portman Road today to undergo a medical. The 26-year-old is a free agent with his Forest contract up at midnight on Saturday.

The deal to bring the one-time Northampton man to Town appears likely to be concluded in the next couple of days in time for the 6ft 1in tall defender to join Paul Jewell’s squad for the first day of pre-season training on Thursday.

The Blues may already have made French-Guinean Cheick Kourouma their second signing of the summer before Chambers puts pen to paper.

The 6ft tall central midfielder, who we understand to be back in Suffolk after the summer break, agreed terms with the Blues last month but without formally signing on the dotted line.

TWTD was first to break the news of Town’s interest in the youngster, who spent time on trial at Playford Road at the end of last season on the recommendation of released defender Ibrahima Sonko.

Kourouma, 19, was with Genoa CFC Primavera, Genoa’s U20 team, during the first half of last season having previously been in Spain with Real Zaragoza’s youth set-up and before that with French club Sochaux.

Although Paris-born Kourouma is a free agent, Town have had to agree development compensation terms with all three of his previous clubs as he is below 23 years of age.

Kourouma seems likely to have agreed a one-year deal, while Chambers is rumoured to be signing for three seasons.
