TWTD understands that talks are still ongoing with former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers, who has been at Portman Road all day to discuss a Bosman free move to the Blues. The 26-year-old underwent his medical earlier today and has been given a tour of the ground and the club’s training facilities.
The deal won't be completed this evening with further developments more likely on Wednesday.
Free agent Chambers, whose Forest contract expired at midnight on Saturday, is amongst manager Paul Jewell’s top targets this summer as he looks to improve on last year’s 15th place finish.
The Blues boss, who will be back at Portman Road after the summer break tomorrow, will hope to get the deal done in time for the start of pre-season training on Thursday morning.
Town are also hoping to have completed the signing of free agent French-Guinean midfielder Cheick Kourouma by that time.
As reported by TWTD last month, the 19-year-old has agreed terms but the Blues still have some outstanding paperwork to tie up. Town need agreements in place with his former clubs Genoa CFC Primavera, Real Zaragoza and Sochaux as development compensation is due as he is below 23 years of age. International clearance is also needed.
Meanwhile, we understand claims that the Blues are targeting Colchester United keeper Ben Williams are wide of the mark. Out-of-contract Williams, 29, has said he’ll be leaving the Weston Homes Community Stadium this summer to move to the Championship, but Town are not amongst the interested parties.
Elsewhere, Hull City manager Steve Bruce says former Aston Villa keeper Brad Guzan, who the Blues were reported to have been eyeing in March, won't be joining the Tigers or any other Championship side: "We thought we were close to bringing Brad Guzan here but he's decided to stay in the Premier League."
