Jewell: Chambers Making a Good Impression - Ipswich Town News
Blues boss Paul Jewell says new signing Luke Chambers has made a very good impression in his short time at the club. The 26-year-old former Nottingham Forest skipper signed a three-year deal earlier today.
Jewell told the club site that he was never in any doubt that Chambers, who joined his new team-mates for a gruelling double training session with new consultant Steve Williams prior to this afternoon’s press conference, would commit to Town: "We're obviously delighted to have Luke at the club.
"The deal's been going on for a while for one reason or another but from the first time we met, I was confident he would sign for us, even though there were a few clubs in for him.
"Luke comes across as a very honest type and he's certainly made a very good impression with everyone at the club in the short time he's been here.
"Colin Calderwood took him from Northampton to Nottingham Forest when he became their manager and that's always a good sign.
"He's always played well against us and he can play as a full-back as well as centre-half, which gives us another option if needed. He's a leader as well and that's what we want from him on the pitch."
Meanwhile, contrary to rumour, former keeper Richard Wright is not training with the Blues at Playford Road having left Preston after a very brief spell last week.
Elsewhere, ex-Blue Gavin Johnson, 41, has joined Thurlow Nunn Premier Division (formerly the Ridgeons League) side Walsham-le-Willows.
