Smith's New Zealand Set for Olympic Exit - Ipswich Town News
Blues centre-half Tommy Smith’s Olympic campaign looks likely to come to an end this afternoon when his New Zealand side face Brazil at St James’ Park, Newcastle in their final group game needing to beat the South Americans to stand a chance of progressing to the quarter-finals (KO 2.30pm).
The Oly Whites lost their opening match 1-0 to Belarus before drawing 1-1 with Egypt, the Town defender providing an assist for his room-mate, West Brom’s Chris Wood.
Smith is expected to be back in training at Playford Road by the end of the week and likely to be in contention for Saturday’s friendly against West Ham.
