Town Confirm Foley Appointment - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed that former coach Steve Foley has returned to the club as the academy’s youth development coach, as first revealed by TWTD a fortnight ago. Academy director Bryan Klug has also added ex-Colchester and Birmingham striker and one-time Blues trainee Steve McGavin to his staff as head of recruitment, replacing Malcolm Moore, who retired earlier in the summer.

Klug told the club website: "I'm delighted that we have been able to add the two guys to our staff.

"Steve Foley has a vast knowledge of the game and has coached across every level. I've obviously worked closely with Steve before in our time at the club and I know he will be a valuable asset to the academy.

"Steve McGavin was an apprentice here as a youngster and has got a lot of contacts in the game locally and again, will be a valuable member of our staff."

Commenting on the news of Foley's return on Twitter, former Blues skipper Jason De Vos said: "Great news! Steve is a fantastic coach - one of the best I’ve ever had."

Foley will work with youngsters aged between 12 and 16. Former striker James Scowcroft has also recently been appointed and is coaching the U14s, while, as revealed two weeks ago, ex-keeper Richard Wright has also been spotted coaching youngsters at Playford Road in recent weeks and seems set to join the staff.
