Town Linked With Celtic Defender - Ipswich Town News

Town are being linked with a £250,000 move for Celtic central defender Kelvin Wilson. The 26-year-old was previously a team-mate of recent Blues signing Luke Chambers at Nottingham Forest.

Wilson is reported not to have settled since moving to Scotland on a Bosman free transfer last summer. During 2011/12 the Nottingham-born centre-half made 20 starts and one sub appearance for the SPL champions.

The 6ft 3in tall defender, who is contracted to the Bhoys until 2015, began his career with Notts County, where he made 78 starts and eight sub appearances, scoring four times, before moving to Preston, initially on loan in March 2006.

He made only 19 starts as well as playing 11 games from the bench in 15 months with the Lilywhites before moving to Forest for £300,000 in July 2007.

During four years at the City Ground Wilson, who is right-footed but has played on both sides of the centre of the defence, made 130 starts and six substitute appearances without scoring. His last goals came for Preston in January 2007 when he scored in two successive matches.

Although Wilson and Chambers played a lot of games together at Forest, Chambers was at right-back for many of them with Wes Morgan partnering Wilson a the heart of the defence.

Wilson has also recently been linked with a return to Forest and was mentioned in connection with a move to Leicester earlier in the summer.

The addition of another central defender before the season starts is very much on Paul Jewell’s wish list with the Blues having continued to show a tendency to concede from set pieces during pre-season.
