Town spent £233,990 on agents’ fees in the year to June 30th 2012, compared with £376,352 in the previous year, the Football League's Agents' Fees Report has revealed. The Blues’ spending was the sixth lowest in the Championship.
That £233,990 was spread over 43 deals, 23 new registrations/transfers, six updated contracts, seven cancelled contracts and seven loans.
Overall, Football League clubs spent £21.7 million on agents in 2011/12, Championship clubs accounting for £18.7 million of that figure and West Ham alone £4,314,270, significantly more than Leagues One and Two put together.
Announcing the figures, Football League chairman Greg Clarke says a small group of clubs paid out much of the overall total: "While £21 million is a lot of money leaving the game, it should also be noted that a considerable amount of this total has been spent by a small number of clubs. In fact, almost a fifth of the overall figure was spent by one club alone.
"Where such spending forms part of a sustainable business plan it shouldn't be of great concern and supporters should be encouraged to see our clubs committing themselves to the new Financial Fair Play regulations that will take effect across all three divisions in the new season.
"In time, these rules will require clubs to be more circumspect with regard to their spending and may help reduce the costs incurred in this area."
