Murray to Miss Season Opener - Ipswich Town News

Town will be without striker Ronan Murray when they start their 2012/13 campaign with a Capital One Cup first round tie against Bristol Rovers at Portman Road on Tuesday. The 20-year-old has been called into the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for a European Championships qualifier against Turkey in Sligo on the same night.

Murray, who has previously won two caps at U21 level, has been called up after a number of players dropped out of the original squad.

Speaking last week, manager Paul Jewell said he had been impressed with what he’d seen from Murray during pre-season: "Rooney’s a busy little player, he’s benefited from the experience of going out on loan and he’s got a goal in him.

"He’s part of this squad and part of his development might be for him to go out on loan, but I’m quite happy to keep him here.”

Also missing on Tuesday will be Josh Carson, who is with the Northern Ireland U21 squad for a friendly against Hungary in Tatabánya on Wednesday.
