Jewell Hopeful He Could Add to Squad Before Blackburn Clash - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Jewell is hopeful that he could add to his squad before Saturday’s opening Championship game of the season at home to Blackburn. Town have lodged a bid for an unnamed player and are waiting for a response from his club.

Jewell said: "We’ve made a bid this morning for a player and we’re waiting for that bid to be accepted or not.

"It’s a player that we’d like to bring to the club. We want to bring players here if we can, in the main, for three or four years, for the future."

The Town manager, who played down the chances of former Blue Connor Wickham returning on loan, says the previous offer he made over the weekend has been turned down and this is a different player: "We got knocked back on that one, the one we made this morning we’re waiting on that one. It’s not the same player, that one looks like it’s dead in the water.

"We tried to resurrect it, but it hasn’t happened. I’m hopeful that this one, if it happens, could be before the weekend.”
