Hutchings: Town Squad Can Take the Heat - Ipswich Town News

Assistant boss Chris Hutchings has revealed that members of the Town side lost up to four pounds in weight during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Blackburn played at a sweltering Portman Road. However, he doesn’t expect any of the squad to be unduly affected and everyone should be fine for tonight’s game at Watford.

Hutchings says the players gradually rehydrated in the hours after the match: "They all lost probably two or three pounds each, four was probably the most. It was a major weight loss.

"It’s not about gulping pints of water straight back down, it’s about having bottles of water, for argument’s sake, in the bath and just having a couple of sips and generally starting to build up, then on the way home, having a couple of bottles of water. After games there’s no way you can just guzzle four bottles of water.”

He says players can be adversely affected by losing so much fluid but that they’ve been tested and should all be fine for the trip to Vicarage Road: "We did the tests yesterday to check whether they had rehydrated and everyone was fantastic, so the fluid’s gone back in. Recovery, then a light training session [on Monday] and then do what we need to do in preparation for Watford.”
