Jewell: Squad All In It Together - Ipswich Town News

Manager Paul Jewell says an incident after Tuesday’s game at Watford typified the unity within his squad at present.

Jewell says that two players had to remain behind after the 1-0 victory over the Hornets: "Both Chops and Cressy got picked out for drugs tests on Tuesday and they weren’t going to get on the bus until 11.20pm.

"I asked the lads if they wanted to go or if they wanted to wait and they all said they wanted to stay. I was gutted as I wanted to get off home! It showed that we’re all in it together and I was pleased.”

He was delighted with both the display and the win at Vicarage Road: "The performance was excellent really. It’s nice to get both [a performance and a result].

"We’d always take a result over a performance but if you can get both a result and a performance that’s obviously good.

"We played well, but that’s behind us now and we look forward to the next game and a very difficult obstacle in Blackpool.”

As for the much vaunted Watford hoodoo, Jewell says he didn’t remember it until he was reminded on the afternoon of the match: "To be honest, I never mentioned it.

"I didn’t realise until my wife texted me and said ‘I hope you break the bogey run against Watford’. I thought, ‘Thanks for reminding me!’

"I think the manner we played and the way we went about it meant it was a great night for us.

"It was a great night for the fantastic support we had there and it was about time we got a late goal because plenty of teams have done it to us since I’ve been here.

"We’re not getting excited or too carried away, but we go into games in a confident mood.”
