Academy second-year scholar Gunnar Thorsteinsson was on target as Iceland’s U19s beat Estonia 4-0 in a home friendly this afternoon. Thorsteinsson, a midfielder or centre-half, netted his country’s third goal.
The 18-year-old and his team-mates play another friendly against the same opposition on Sunday afternoon, also on home territory.
Elsewhere, Josh Carson was an unused sub as Northern Ireland lost 2-0 in Russia in their first World Cup qualifier. The Northern Irish next take on Luxembourg at Windsor Park in Belfast on Tuesday.
