Ferguson Expects Boyd Exit - Ipswich Town News

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has admitted that he expects midfielder George Boyd to move on despite the 26-year-old turning down a switch to the Blues before the transfer window closed. Yesterday, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said he didn’t know whether Boyd would join Town this week.

Ferguson told BBC Cambridgeshire that he anticipates Boyd moving to Town or another Championship club: "I think so, I think it has been publicly stated that this is the situation.

"He turned down a move so we will see if anything materialises. At the end of the day, George was offered a new contract by us and turned it down.

"He made it clear he doesn’t want to be at the football club at the end of the season — that is not a criticism, it is just the situation he is in.

"We want to keep our best players, but if they don’t want to, we will move them on accordingly.”

While Posh are keen that the switch can be completed so they can receive a fee and also rid themselves of Boyd’s wages, which are more than £10,000 a week, we understand that the Blues are unlikely to make a renewed move until the central defensive situation is clearer.

Two new centre-halves are manager Paul Jewell’s priority and Town want to get those deals done before assessing whether they are able to make a new offer to Boyd.

The former Stevenage man is keen to move to Portman Road but turned down Town’s terms before the window closed as they didn’t match his current Posh earnings and the Blues were unwilling to stretch to a four-year deal.

Football League clubs have been able to take players on 93-day loans since Saturday. Further to that initial spell, moves can be negotiated on the basis that they become permanent switches in January.
