Former Blues boss and skipper Jim Magilton could be set for a return to management with Shamrock Rovers after Stephen Kenny was sacked by the Dublin side last night. Magilton, who has been out of work since leaving Australian club Melbourne Victory in April, is amongst the favourites to take over at the Airtricity Premier League side.
The 43-year-old previously worked at Shamrock Rovers, who ex-Blue Shane O’Connor joined in the summer, as assistant to his close friend Michael O’Neill, who is now in charge of Northern Ireland.
During that spell Rovers became the first Irish side to reach the group stages of the Europa League.
Champions again last year, they currently sit in fourth, 13 points off the top with the Irish season running through the summer.
Meanwhile, Blues midfielder Josh Carson was an unused sub last night as O’Neill’s Northern Irishmen drew 1-1 at home to Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier.
