Luke Hyam may be on the brink of signing a new deal but midfield colleague Andy Drury insists he is not concerned about being in the last year of his Portman Road contract.
Drury, 28, admits he is even uncertain as to the specified number of games he must play this season to trigger a clause guaranteeing him an extension of another 12 months at the club.
The player snapped up from non-league Luton for £150,000 in January last year has so far made 40 appearances, 11 of which have been as a substitute, and scored two goals.
He said: "The club have an option, depending on how many appearances I make. I’m not too sure what the number is to be honest with you. It’s not something I’m worried about at the moment. I just want to carry on and enjoy my football.
"I’ve been in the game long enough. I’ve had one-year deals before at my previous clubs. Whatever will be, will be — that’s the way I look at it. It’s a lovely club and somewhere I’d like to stay for a few seasons. But sometimes, as a player, it’s not always in your own hands.”
Drury is satisfied with the progress he has made with Ipswich, especially after going on loan to Crawley almost exactly a year ago and returning much the better for the experience of scoring four times in 15 games, a healthy contribution towards the Red Devils’ ultimate promotion to League One.
He added: "I didn’t really get much of a chance until January and when it came along I took it. I’ve played near enough every game since then and I just want to make sure I play well enough to keep hold of it.
"Other players are waiting for their chance and when it comes they know they need to grab it. I just need to keep doing my best and hope to stay clear of injury if I’m going to stay in the side.”
