Boss Paul Jewell says he still has the support of owner Marcus Evans despite the disappointing start to the season which sees Town go into today's home game against Charlton in 23rd place in the Championship. Evans was at Wednesday evening’s 2-0 defeat to Wolves.
Jewell said: "I spoke to him before the game and I spoke to him afterwards. But whatever we speak about, it has to be [kept between ourselves], being respectful. I’ve got his support.
"He knows we’ve been a little bit unlucky but that will only last so long. But if we create the chances we’ve created in the last two games, I know it will turn around.”
Earlier in the week, the Town boss said he felt that some clubs could be gambling their futures on reaching the Premier League by spending big on fees and wages.
He says that if those clubs fail to reach the promised land, their owners could become disillusioned and move on, something which won’t happen at Town: "In a year’s time, someone might get a bit fed up with it, pull the plug on the club and the club is left in the mire.
"Marcus Evans isn’t going to do that. Supporters will complain about how much players are earning, but supporters will still want the club to buy players. It’s a really difficult balancing act.
"I’ve no problem with our wage bill not being as high as a lot of teams in this division, that’s the way it is. The most important things are the supporters and the football club.
"We want to get in the Premier League, that is everybody’s ambition, but we’re certainly not prepared to do that by risking the future of the club, and that’s what’s happened in some cases.
"We all know about Portsmouth and Rangers, there might be a few more teams in the Championship who could be in the same boat if things don’t go as they expect them to.”
