Jewell: Duo Add Quality and Experience - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Paul Jewell says new loan signings Richie Wellens and DJ Campbell will add quality and experience to his squad. The pair look set to make their Town debuts when Cardiff visit Portman Road for tomorrow’s live Sky game (KO 5.20pm).

Jewell told the club site: "We are in a tough situation at the moment and the two lads that have come in are experienced players — and very decent players and that is what we need at the moment. They are hungry to play football and that’s the key as well.

"Richie is back from injury now and has played the vast majority of games for Leicester over the last two or three years.

"He is a terrific passer of the ball and we actually tried to get him here on a permanent deal in the summer but couldn’t make it work.

"He’s here for six games and I know Leicester don’t want to let him go. They weren’t that keen on him going on loan to another Championship club but we’re pleased to have sorted something out and he will be a big asset to the squad.”

The Blues fought off competition from Blackpool to land Campbell and Jewell has revealed that Seasiders’ manager Ian Holloway called him yesterday: "DJ will provide quality as well. He was all set to go to Blackpool a week back but that didn’t happen and we’ve managed to bring him here for three months.

"Ollie rang me last night. He thinks the world of him and told me that we have a really good player and a great lad.

"He will give us that spark that perhaps we need to finish off the chances that we have been creating.”

Jewell isn’t ruling out the duo signing permanently at this stage: "As I said, Leicester don’t want Richie to go but you never know what can happen in football.

"With DJ, he’s played Premier League football and he is hungry to do well. He wants to play first-team football, so it’s not out of the question. We will see how things develop.”
