Loan defender Danny Higginbotham says he feels sorry for under-fire boss Paul Jewell, who he says was one of the main reasons he came to the club. The 33-year-old’s one-month spell is due to come to an end after Tuesday’s game against his old club Derby but is keen to extend his stay.
Speaking after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Hull, Higginbotham said: "I just feel sorry for the manager because he puts us on the pitch and some of the things that happen, like conceding in the way we have, are disappointing.
"It’s very difficult for him. He’s a very proud man and at this moment in time he’s obviously not enjoying his football.
"If you’re not winning games, you start to question yourself. Everyone in that dressing room is gutted about the situation.
"The manager was one of the main reasons I came here and I’ve got nothing but respect for him. He tries to protect the players as much as possible. Only we can turn it around and I honestly believe we can do that."
