Town are reported to have spoken to former Millwall, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy. The 53-year-old has always been viewed as amongst the experienced bosses the Blues would be interested in speaking to as they look for a replacement for Paul Jewell, who left by mutual consent on Wednesday.
Presumably as a result of the reports, the odds on McCarthy becoming the next Blues boss have tumbled with some bookmakers
The club are remaining tight-lipped regarding potential targets, refusing to rule in or out any specific individuals.
McCarthy, who left Wolves in February and spoke to Nottingham Forest this summer, would appear to fit the profile of the new manager Town are looking for as outlined by chief executive Simon Clegg at Wednesday’s Supporters Club AGM: "This is not going to be a high-risk appointment.
"We need to have someone that we’ve got confidence in, who has got the necessary experience and skill-base to get us out of this current hole and get us to where we want to go in the long run.”
