Holland Backs Appointment But Hasn't Spoken to Old Boss - Ipswich Town News

Former Blues skipper Matt Holland has backed the appointment of Mick McCarthy as the new Town boss but says he hasn’t spoken to his former Ireland manager about a position at Portman Road, as had been widely reported.

Holland tweeted: "Excellent appointment by ITFC - Mick McCarthy is a very good manager and as honest as they come. The very best of luck to him and Terry.

"He also has a very dry sense of humour and will put a smile back on the players' faces. Three points on Saturday now!

"And, for the record, I haven't spoken to him. He has far more pressing issues - like getting ITFC off the foot of the table!”

Former loan keeper David Stockdale has also tweeted his good wishes to Town supporters: "A special good luck to waking ITFC fans and Mick MCarthy. Let’s get this massive club back where it belongs!”

Ex-England skipper Gary Lineker has also wished McCarthy well with Town: "Good luck to Mick McCarthy at Ipswich. Very sound appointment. Top man!”

Town are holding a press conference at 5pm which BBC Radio Suffolk is broadcasting live online.
