Murphy Enjoying Partnership With Campbell - Ipswich Town News

Striker Daryl Murphy says he’s enjoying playing up front with loanee DJ Campbell. The duo were both on target in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Burnley at Portman Road having initially been paired up in new manager Mick McCarthy’s first game, the 1-0 win at Birmingham in which Campbell netted the only goal.

The former Sunderland man remembers the on-loan QPR striker’s performance in a 2006 FA Cup tie in which he helped create a famous upset against a Black Cats side then managed by McCarthy.

Murphy, who wasn’t involved in that game, said: "DJ is poacher. [Sunderland] played against him when he was at Brentford and he scored a couple of goals against us and that got him his big move [to Birmingham].

"I know what a good player he is. He is just what you need around the box. He is always moving and sniffing out tap-ins. We work well together and created a few chances for each other.”

Campbell’s spell with Town ends on Saturday 5th January, while 29-year-old Murphy’s third period on loan with the Blues is up at the season’s close when both players will be out of contract.
