Collection for Helsingborg - Ipswich Town News

Town and TWTD are collaborating to collect cash to help pay off the fine incurred by Helsingborgs IF after Town supporters ran on the pitch during the second leg of the UEFA Cup tie. The idea came from fans posting on the TWTD Message Board a week or so ago.

Both clubs received a fine of £4,226 due to the incident. Immediately it became clear that Helsingborg were to receive a fine fans in the TWTD Message Board suggested that we hold a collection to pay off their share of the fine. Supporters had enjoyed such warm hospitality in Sweden that they felt it was unfair that our hosts should have to stump up for a fine.

Collection buckets will be held by stewards at the Arsenal game on December 1st. The first £4,226 will go to Helsingborg, while any excess will help pay off Town's share. Anything above that will go to charity.

In his programme notes ahead of tonight's game Town chairman David Sheepshanks says: "I was very moved by this gesture, which sums up why Ipswich Town have the best fans in England."

Why just England Mr Chairman!
