McCarthy Knows Nothing of Contract Claims - Ipswich Town News

Manager Mick McCarthy says he doesn’t know where claims that he has a get-out clause in his Town contract have come from.

Reports in Ireland earlier in the week claimed the two-and-a-half-year deal the Blues boss recently signed at Portman Road included a clause which would allow him to return to his old role as Republic of Ireland boss at the end of the season if the FAI wanted him without the Blues receiving any compensation.

Asked about the reports McCarthy said: "I don’t discuss my contract, so where those stories come from I don’t know.”

Prior to joining the Blues, there was speculation in the Irish press that McCarthy was being lined-up for a return to the position he held between 1996 and 2002, claims he dismissed at his first Town press conference: "There were all sorts of stories that I’ve been tapped up and I’ve spoken to them, but it was barefaced lies. Nothing in it at all.”

However, he subsequently admitted that he might be interested at some point in the future should the job become vacant, although while keen not to undermine current incumbent Giovanni Trapattoni, who is contracted until after the 2014 World Cup: "I’d go back, but when it’s right, when it’s available. I’m not trying to add pressure on to anybody else.”

In terms of Town, McCarthy says he’s enjoying life in Suffolk, although he’s currently still living in a hotel: "I’ve been here two weeks and we’ve had two away games. I’ve not really been able to go out and get myself a house and get settled in.

"I’ve had lovely feedback, from people in the hotel, people around the place. I’ve had a warm welcome.”
