DJ Campbell has revealed that QPR have told him they want him back at Loftus Road in January. The 31-year-old, who is open to staying with Town permanently but not extending his loan which is up on January 5th, admits he has decisions to make come the new year.
Campbell, who cost Rangers £1.2 million from Blackpool in July last year, was plagued by injuries in his first season at the club and to date has scored just once in 12 games, nine of them as a substitute.
He said: "QPR have spoken to my advisors and expressed an interest in me going back there in January. My contract is up at the end of the season.
"It will be interesting to see what happens in January but I will only do what suits me and my family, whether it’s signing full-time for Ipswich, going back to QPR or moving somewhere else on a permanent deal.
"Although my QPR contract is up in the summer, if I play a certain amount of games I will get another year. I’d like to sort my future out in January rather than become a free agent in the summer and not know where I’m going.”
Rangers are bottom of the Premier League without a win all season and under-fire boss Mark Hughes might not be in charge for much longer [Hughes has now been sacked - TWTD].
Campbell added: "I’ve known for some time, since soon after I came here, that Mark Hughes wanted me to go back in January.
"But it’s a question of whether I want to go back after all that’s happened. I’m happy here and staying permanently is definitely something I would consider.
"I am in a tough position really and I have a big decision to make in January. QPR are my club, the club I have supported from a young age, but it hasn’t quite worked out how I had hoped it would.
"I wasn’t named in Mark Hughes’s squad of 25 so I can’t go back until January when they can change the 25. They have asked me if I will play for Mark Hughes but it’s not personal between me and the gaffer.
"When I was left out of the 25 I had to train with the reserves and I like to think I’m better than that. It hurt me the way I was treated.
"But they have made the first contact to say they want me back. It’s a club that is close to my heart so it’s something that I’ll have to think seriously about.”
