Blues boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Luke Hyam will replace Nigel Reo-Coker when Town take on Nottingham Forest at Portman Road on Tuesday evening (KO 7.45pm). Reo-Coker suffered a hamstring problem during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Peterborough.
McCarthy says Reo-Coker’s condition will be checked out more closely today: "They’ll look at him again this morning.
"They didn’t think it was as bad as they first thought, but he has no chance for tomorrow and I would think no chance for the weekend. I hate ruling people out, let him get assessed this morning and we’ll know a bit better.”
The Blues boss says 21-year-old Hyam, who came on as a sub on Saturday, will be in Tuesday’s team from the off: "He got a lovely reception and I hope he gets a lovely reception on Tuesday night when he starts.”
Midfielder Guirane N’Daw suffered a cut to the head against Posh but McCarthy says the Senegalese international isn’t considered a doubt: "I saw him yesterday but he was struggling to see me!
"But he’s fine, I’m certain he’ll be OK. I thought he was excellent the other day, he continued to battle, he was great.”
Aside from that, McCarthy says the rest of the squad are fit with the exception of Paul Taylor, who is expected to miss the season having undergone foot surgery: "A few bumps and bruises but they’ll all be fine.”
The Town manager says new loan signing Tyrone Barnett will come into the squad and had praise for keeper Stephen Henderson, who looks set to keep his place in goal.”
