Former Blue Liam Trotter is expected to be one of three Millwall first teamers back for Saturday’s game at Town having been out with injury. Striker Darius Henderson and winger James Henry, a Blues target in the summer of 2011, are also likely to return.
Trotter, who joined the Lions in the summer of 2010 having been on loan at the Den after turning down a contract at Portman Road, has been suffering with an adductor problem, while Henderson and Henry have had hamstring and calf injuries respectively.
Manager Kenny Jackett told the News Shopper: "They are on target to all be back for Saturday. It will depend on today and tomorrow’s training, of course, but I would say so far this week they have looked good and look set to be OK.
"It is a huge boost for us to have them back because it increases competition and our options within the squad.”
The Lions have continued their good run of form in their absence, taking their unbeaten run to 13 games, having picked up six wins in their last eight matches.
Jackett says his opposite number Mick McCarthy has made a significant impression since taking over at Portman Road just over a month ago: "Ipswich have had a good run and picked up some results lately with a new manager.
"The crowd and the place will be very positive, which will make it a tough game. I think looking through their squad they are a very competitive Championship side.
"For whatever reason before Mick came in results haven’t quite gone their way this year. On Saturday it will be a very positive place on the back of their 2-1 win last week at Bolton.”
Meanwhile, Blues defender Tommy Smith says he’s looking forward to facing his New Zealand international room-mate Chris Wood on Saturday.
"Chris is a good mate of mine and it will be good to come up against him on Saturday if we are both playing,” he told the club website.
"He’s scoring goals for fun at the moment and he’s definitely one player we will have to keep an eye on. I wish him all the best after Saturday but for the 90 minutes I hope he doesn’t get a kick!”
Smith will also come up against his former team-mate Trotter: "Trotts is doing well for them and it will be good to see him too. They are on a fantastic run, but we’ve also performed well in our last couple of games so it should be a good battle.”
