Redknapp: DJ Could Still Have QPR Future - Ipswich Town News

QPR manager Harry Redknapp says on-loan striker DJ Campbell could still have a future at Loftus Road, despite his lack of involvement since he joined the Premier League’s bottom club in the summer of 2011. Campbell has made just three starts and nine sub appearances for the West London club since his £1.2 million move from Blackpool.

The 31-year-old’s three-month spell at Town ends on January 5th and, with his striking options currently limited due to injuries to Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora, Redknapp says Campbell could have a future with the club he supported as a boy.

"DJ’s out on loan at the moment,” he told the Fulham Chronicle. "Of course, we’ll see how he goes, and if he works hard and continues to score, then you never know.”

Campbell, who has netted eight goals in 12 games for Town, says he remains in the dark regarding his situation, although he has previously ruled out a further loan, preferring to make a permanent move if he is to leave QPR with his contract up in the summer.

Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, he said: "I don’t even know what I’m going to do, to be honest. QPR, that will have to wait until January. I can’t affect what’s going on at QPR. I’m an Ipswich player at the minute and all I’m thinking about is Ipswich at the minute and trying to do the best for them.

"When January comes and me an Harry sit down or when my representatives sit down with Harry or Ipswich or whatever, that’s when I’ll start thinking about things.

"At the moment, I’m just trying to focus on doing the best I can for Ipswich and when the time comes we’ll look at it then.

"But I’m enjoying myself, I’m enjoying my football, I love the lads and the gaffer’s been brilliant to me. We’ll see what happens in January.”

Town manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed that he would like to add Campbell to his staff on a permanent basis and on Saturday revealed that he had called Redknapp and left a message.

Meanwhile, Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws says he is hopeful that on-loan Blues striker Nathan Ellington will be fit for next week’s visit to Leyton Orient having missed Saturday’s 2-1 home loss to Bournemouth due to a calf strain.

He said: "We decided that it wasn’t worth the risk with him, because had we played him there was a chance that he could have been unavailable for much longer. As it is we are hopeful he will be back for next week.”
Ellington, who is with the League One side until January 5th, has so far made one start and two sub appearances for the Iron without scoring.
