Town Outline Reasons for Ticket Decision - Ipswich Town News
Town have outlined the reasons for only acquiring 2,900 tickets for the FA Cup third round tie at Aston Villa on Saturday 5th January. Seats go on general sale this morning and with only a few tickets left on sale by phone, a large number of fans are expecting to be disappointed.
Away clubs are entitled to up to 15% of the home side’s capacity in the FA Cup, just over 6,400 in the case of Villa Park, which has a capacity of 42,788.
However, as has been the case in similar situations in the past, only the initial allocation — in this instance 2,900 tickets — is available on a sale or return basis. The club would have to commit to buy any other tickets outright and would take the financial hit if they weren’t sold.
A Town spokesman said: "The club had to make a decision on the number of tickets to buy from Aston Villa as there is a no return policy.
"With our average away attendance being 650 this season, a figure of 2,900 was deemed to be appropriate.”
