Blues Linked With Striker Moves - Ipswich Town News

Town are being linked with loan moves for strikers Aaron Mclean from Hull and Nottingham Forest's David McGoldrick.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy has long been a fan of 29-year-old Mclean and tried to sign him from Peterborough when he was boss at Wolves.

Mclean, who is also interesting Millwall, hasn't featured for the Tigers since the start of December and has scored three times this season.

The Hammersmith-born striker started his career with Leyton Orient, before dropping into non-league with Aldershot and then Grays, with whom he made his name. He joined Peterborough in 2006 and moved on to Hull in January 2011.

McGoldrick has spent the first half of the season on loan at Coventry, scoring 17 goals in 24 starts and one sub appearance.

As reported in November, Mick McCarthy and assistant Terry Connor were at the Sky Blues' game at Colchester in which McGoldrick was reported to be the stand-out performer, scoring once.

Asked about the 25-year-old last week, McCarthy said: "He’s scored a few goals for Coventry on loan and we’ve been looking all over the place. But I wouldn’t tell you my targets, you know that.”

McGoldrick started his career with Notts County but moved to Southampton when still a 16-year-old, having already broken into the Magpies' first team.

The 6ft 1in tall pacey frontman, who spent tim eback at Meadow Lane and at Port Vale and Bournemouth on loan while a Saint, was on the losing side as Town won the 2005 FA Youth Cup.

He joined Forest in 2009 for £1 million, signing a four-year deal, and since then has been on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and then Coventry.
