Camp Continues to Be Linked - Ipswich Town News

Town continue to be linked with exiting Nottingham Forest keeper Lee Camp, who was first mentioned in connection with a move to the Blues last week. The 28-year-old has been told he can leave the City Ground in January having failed to agree a new deal with his current terms up in the summer.

According to a number of this morning’s national newspapers, the Blues now lead the chase for the Northern Ireland international with Reading and Hull City also previously having been linked.

Manager Alex McLeish said last week: "I told Lee that he could speak to his agent about finding another club.

"It was face-to-face. I told him that I had to make changes and that I knew there had been some frustration between him and the club over a period of time.

"I said that I wanted to bring a goalkeeper in and that I thought it wouldn't be right for a man of his stature to be sitting on the bench as number two.”

Yesterday, Blues keeper Scott Loach, who has regained his place in the Town side in the last couple of games, reacted to speculation that Camp might be on his way to Portman Road by tweeting "Absolutely gutting if true”.

Later, having removed it, he added: "People taking that gutted tweet seriously? I'm being sarcastic. I’ve just played two good games and loved it. No need to overreact.”

It would be no surprise if the Blues moved for another keeper with Stephen Henderson having gone back to West Ham at the end of his loan with an ankle injury which is expected to sideline him for a fortnight.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has said he'd be interested in Henderson returning but has concerns about the 24-hour recall clause the Hammers want to include in any deal.

Elsewhere, Michael Chopra’s race-fixing inquiry begins today. The Blues striker released a statement last week saying he would not be appearing at the hearing into charges made against him and a number of other people, including his agent Yogesh Joshee and former Newcastle team-mate James Coppinger, in October. According to reports, it’s currently unclear whether the police will take an interest in the matter.
