David McGoldrick is confident Ipswich can make a major impact in the Championship next season as long as they can ensure their survival in the current campaign.
Bottom when boss Mick McCarthy took over 14 league games ago, the Blues now have a six-point cushion separating them from the bottom three.
McGoldrick admits he was puzzled by Town’s early-season form but believes there are much better times ahead under a manager he rates very highly.
He said: "There is a good squad here and there was even before Mick took over. I was surprised they didn’t do better but since Mick’s been here things have improved and there is a lot of confidence about the place.
"He’s sorted out the shape, brought in some new players and there might be more to come before the end of January that will help us even more to climb the table. Next season I can see us being successful.
"I think the bookies will give us a big chance of promotion based on the players we have here and the manager’s track record at this level.”
McGoldrick is hoping he can continue among the goals for Town after netting 17 times in 26 games on loan to League One outfit Coventry.
He added: "If I get the chances I will score goals for Ipswich. I’ve enough confidence in my ability to say that.
"I work hard and give it my all. I’m not electric quick but I wouldn’t say I was slow either. I can finish with calmness and my all-round game, including holding the ball up, is okay.
"Coventry wanted to keep me after the first month I was there but I decided I would keep my options open and when Ipswich came in for me I knew I had done the right thing.”
