Trust Co-Ordinating Ipswich Handball Launch - Ipswich Town News

The ITFC Charitable Trust is co-ordinating the launch of Ipswich Handball at Suffolk One on Wednesday 23rd January (from 6.15pm). Everyone is welcome to come along and have a go at the sport which is popular throughout Europe and drew big crowds at last summer’s London Olympics.

The evening features an exhibition match, while those attending can have a go at the handball skillshot. Team GB Olympian and Sporting Champion Louise Jukes will be present as a VIP guest.

Dave Hendrick, who is in charge of the project, said: "The match will be between Ipswich Select and Essex Blades and will be a really exciting start to the evening’s events.

"There’s an opportunity for people of all abilities to join in and try handball for themselves. We are delighted to have Louise Jukes joining us on the night and she will be meeting fans and chatting about her Olympic experiences.”

The launch of Ipswich Handball is being co-ordinated by ITFC Charitable Trust coaches and is funded by Sport England’s Olympic Legacy project, Sportivate, which is driven locally by Suffolk Sport.

Hendrick added: "This is part of a much larger project to form a league for 14-25-year-olds. Work in this area has already begun with four high schools already on board.

"The coaches from the ITFC Charitable Trust have been trained to take handball out into the wider community via schools to work with us in our endeavour to help make Suffolk one of the most active counties in 2013.”
