Ipswich Girls Side Closing In On Wembley - Ipswich Town News

Ipswich Academy have moved closer to appearing at Wembley after winning the area finals of the npower Football League Girls Cup at Coventry City. Ipswich Academy are representing Ipswich Town in the competition having won the club’s local tournament, which was organised by the ITFC Charitable Trust in November.

Having seen off competition from nine other schools representing their local npower Football League clubs at Coventry, they now progress to the southern regional finals of the U13s competition, where they take on three more schools.

If they are successful, they will face the winners of the northern regional finals at Wembley prior to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final on April 7th.

Before the regional finals, Arsenal Ladies, England and Team GB top goalscorer Steph Houghton will visit the school to take charge of a coaching session.

Clare McDougall, head of community and education from npower, said: "We’ve got Steph on board to give the girls that extra lift they might need to get to the final.

"Not only will she be able to pass on some her skills, she’s perfectly positioned to tell the girls what it means to play at Wembley and how to maximise their abilities.”

Fabian Ambrose, football development coach for the ITFC Charitable Trust, said of the Ipswich Academy team: "We are so proud of the girls, it’s a fantastic achievement to win any tournament but with the calibre of opponents faced it’s a great credit to their belief, team spirit and togetherness. I hope we can continue our form through the regional finals to Wembley!”
