Hyam Confident Ahead of Big Game for Both Teams - Ipswich Town News

Luke Hyam and his Town colleagues know all about the pressure facing tomorrow’s opponents, Bristol City, as they attempt to climb off the bottom of the Championship.

Ipswich were there when Mick McCarthy took charge in November but 15 league games and 25 points later they are sitting in 19th place.

Hyam, 21, said: "You never know what is going to happen in the Championship because it’s so inconsistent. They could win but to be honest I’m pretty sure we will win.

"First and foremost I look to play well, help us play well as a team and make sure we get the three points. Anything after that is a bonus.

"Saturday is obviously a big game for both teams. If we win it will take us 13 points clear of them but if they beat us they will close the gap to seven points. We both need the points and it will be an interesting game.

"We need to be looking to move up the table and we need to be beating the teams around us for that to happen. We’re still in a relegation battle, just as the manager says.

"We need to get out of this situation and hopefully, with a few wins under our belt, we can then start to look at the play-offs.”

That may seem a very tall order — Town are currently 14 points adrift of sixth-placed Watford — but with 54 points still up for grabs it is at least mathematically possible.

Hyam added: "People are saying we look like a team that is set up to do better away from home and I suppose you could say that.

"But we are always looking at ways to improve the team — different tactics in training during the week for example. We know we can do better than we did against Barnsley last week when we didn’t play very well.

"You could say that Guirane N’Daw and I are more defensive as midfielders but on the training ground we are both trying to improve.

"We want to get forward, create more chances and score more goals, while also helping to shut up shop by supporting the defenders.

"Our partnership is okay but there is always room for improvement. He speaks basic English and he understands when you tell him what to do and other instructions. It’s fine, there’s no issue there.”
