McCarthy Searching for Strike Partnership - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he is looking for a strike partnership to develop between two of his five main frontmen. The Town manager has added David McGoldrick (pictured), Aaron Mclean and Frank Nouble to his squad during this transfer window with Michael Chopra and Daryl Murphy already at the club.

McGoldrick and Mclean have started the last two matches but are yet to find the target and the Blues boss hints that he might look to change things around at Bristol City today: "I’ve put them in and had two games with them.

"Aaron hasn’t had the games David’s had and has probably looked that way in terms of being short of match practice. But he’s a real handful. I think David has just got better in the games, he played well last week.

"We’ve got five of them, so it’s a question of finding a good partnership between the five of them and I’ll stick with that until it’s not working, then we’ll try something else.”

If McCarthy does decide to make a switch, Murphy would appear the favourite to come into the team alongside McGoldrick. Mclean, Nouble and Chopra are all likely to be on the bench.

In addition to those five, Ronan Murray is on loan at Plymouth until the end of the season, Nathan Ellington would appear to be surplus to requirements having returned from his loan spell at Scunthorpe, while Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is now more likely to be used in midfield. Jason Scotland’s contract was settled last week.

Meanwhile, former Blue David Wright has joined Colchester United having been released by Crystal Palace.

Ex-Town frontman Dean McDonald has signed for Blue Square Bet Premier side Macclesfield Town having been on trial with the Silkmen last summer following his departure from Carshalton Athletic.
