Stearman: Whirlwind Six Months at Wolves - Ipswich Town News

Richard Stearman has reflected on a topsy-turvy time in his career that has seen him join Ipswich on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 25-year-old defender said: "I was hopeful that I would get to play a bit more at Wolves in the past couple of months but I realised I needed to get out and maybe get some games under my belt to improve my match fitness.

"When I heard it was Ipswich and my old gaffer, Mick McCarthy, who were interested I jumped at the opportunity.

"It has been a bit of a whirlwind year, or at least six months, at Wolves I suppose. They are towards the wrong end of the table from where they expected to be and a new manager has come in and gone.

"I think they’ve got a little bit of a hangover from the Premiership relegation, so fingers crossed they can turn it round and climb the table, as I hope Ipswich do as well.”

Apart from McCarthy and his assistant, Terry Connor, Stearman said he knows several members of the Portman Road playing squad.

He added: "I was with Frank [Nouble] at Wolves, played with Lee [Martin] for England and generally you get to know players from playing against each other. When I walked into the dressing room I saw a lot of friendly and familiar faces.

"Ipswich is a massive club with a great fan base and whenever I’ve played here it’s always been a great atmosphere. It’s a great set-up here and hopefully I’ll enjoy my time.”
