Manager Mick McCarthy was back at Playford Road today after missing Saturday's 4-0 victory over Middlesbrough and having been absent from training for most of last week due to a virus.
McCarthy's assistant Terry Connor was in charge in his absence and said after Saturday's game that his boss expected to be back at work today: " "At the end his message to the team was that they did really well, they performed well and got a good result and he’d see them all on Monday."
Meanwhile, Connor told the club site that he and McCarthy have worked with two-goal central defender Tommy Smith on various facets of his game: "We have spoken to Tommy about his defensive side and improving aspects of his play and he has taken that on board.
"We have also talked about the other end of the pitch. He had chipped in with one or two goals before the weekend and looked a threat. It was great to see him against Middlesbrough turning that threat into goals.”
