Edwards, who has scored four international goals, hasn’t appeared for his country since November 2011.

Elsewhere, midfielder Josh Carson is in Northern Ireland’s squad for their friendly in. The 19-year-old, who was a late call-up due to injuries, has previously won four full caps.

Loan keeper Stephen Henderson could win his first senior cap for the Republic of Ireland having been named in their squad for a friendly with Poland (Sky Sports Two, 7.30pm).

Two Town youngsters face one another when the Wales U21s take on their Icelandic counterparts at Stebonheath Park, Llanelli in a friendly (Highlights, BBC2 Wales, 11.20, Sky channel 971).

Right-back Elliott Hewitt is in ex-Blue Geraint Williams’s Welsh squad and is likely to win his sixth U21 cap.

Midfielder or defender Gunnar Thorsteinsson has been named in Iceland's travelling party and will win his first cap at U21 level.

Meanwhile, loan defender Richard Stearman could soon join keeper Henderson in Republic of Ireland squads in the future having applied for Irish citizenship.

"It’s in the process at the moment," he said. "I am gaining a passport and citizenship and hopefully that will be not far around the corner.

"All my family on my mother’s side are Irish and I am looking to get on the international scene.”

Elsewhere, defender Tommy Smith, who isn't in action during this international week, says he'd be honoured to succeed the retiring Ryan Nelsen as New Zealand's captain, having worn the armband in the new Toronto FC boss's absence previously: "It would be a great honour to be given the captaincy full time."
